Touring the world one pair of headphones at a time...

Feb 28, 2017

This month's scene show is all about grebo, a very specific substrata of music that was focused around 1988-1999 in the Midlands of the UK. There's a small number of bands in it, but some of them were quite prolific, and a number of them have returned after long absences, so it seemed like a good time to bust it out. It's a little short for a scene show, but should give you a good idea of the whole field, and inspire you to seek out some of these bands on your own.

So this one's back to random access theater - music done with no concern for being consistent or reliable. It's just going to play what it wants how it wants. You should just shove it into your earholes and not try and fight back. You'll only go crazy if you do...

This episode is not for kids. But it makes me laugh. Give it a listen. Tell other people to listen to it. And good LORD the show with me and Topher got a lot of downloads... I'm not sure if that's because it's long, or because people enjoyed hearing me and someone else bounce off one another...

Sort of back to our normal mishmash of styles and genres and bands and things, but hey, who can tell any more. It's a lot of music that keeps me moving and getting through the rough political snafus we keep getting. It seems like each and every day, something new gets fucked up. The show on the weekend is going to swear a lot, so be warned of that, but this should mostly just be music to ease the roughness of the days...

So, this is a strange one... I don't know how many of you are going to want to download and listen to this, but this show was recorded Wednesday with my oldest friend, Topher, who was in town, and features a lot of us talking about how we met, how we grew up, our time rooming together in college, the period in time where we faded from each others' lives and our eventual return and where it's found us.

Don't get me wrong. There's a bunch of music here, and I think the conversations are a fascinating look inside of my head from an outside perspective of someone who's known me the longest, but your mileage may vary. What with downloads being as low as they have been the last few weeks, I'm starting to think that I can do whatever I want and it won't affect the tiny number of listeners I have anyway.

The conversation volume levels for this episode are all over the place - sorry about that. I've never done a show with someone else before. The music selection leans very heavily into the late '90s (surprise) but I think the show is worth listening to, even if you may not. It's up to you. It's also a long show, just under 3 hours, with probably 45 minutes of that me and Topher talking. Up to you.
